58. Jacks frustration and teething with teeth!
Jack has been incredible from day 1, and still is. But its clear he is getting sick of them a lot more. The babies are taking up a lot more of our attention now that they are on the move and all over the place. I find myself telling him to "hold on a minute while I just ..... ", all the time! Jack is wanting to do much more interactive play at the moment. Hide and seek, jigsaws, building blocks etc. We also have ti break off games a lot because of a cry.
With movement, comes lots if bumps with the boys. The climb up things like the side of the sofa or a table or chair leg, my legs are popular too when they want something. With the climbs comes slips, bumps and over balance which equal lots of cries. They also endlessly squabble over toys and pinch stuff off each other constantly. They get really annoyed and start crying. They also see Jack and his toys and go for a look, pick then up, put them in their mouths and Jack gets mad, snatches them back, pushes them away etc, all resulting in more tears. Unfortunately, when the babies do want Jack's toys and he snatches or pushes them, it's then Jack that gets told off for making the baby cry. Poor lad can't win sometimes! The other day he was going out for a daddy and Jack day and in the car he told James he was feeling a bit angry because the babies are always crying. Sometimes he just wants to watch tv and there always seems to be a noisy baby.
We are, and have always been aware of all this and do everything we can to make sure Jack gets as much attention as we can provide. But sometimes one of us is busy. There's always cooking, tidying, and other things that need doing before we do whichever activity is planned, and there is always one of us being called away to a baby. But we do jump back and forth to Jack no matter how busy we are.
I had a chat with him again about why the babies cry and what he can do as the big boy brother to make himself happy, and trying to remember to play with his toys in places the babies can't get to.
I was messaging my aunt and she asked about Jack, so I told her and she suggested making a little quiet zone. A tent or something with lights and books. What a brilliant idea! I have been gathering things together to make him his very own chill out place that he can go to when the babies are driving him nuts. I really hope he likes it and enjoys it.
More teeth!
Our latest flare up of teething has been a big one, and resulted in a lot more teeth. Rob cut 3 teeth in a couple of days, two of them being his top 2 front teeth, big ones!! I could see them pressing against his gums and clearly causing him a lot of pain. I regularly press on their gums to feel for the teeth, and also to try and ease their discomfort. They chew things to ease their pain so pressing on their gums apparently, does the same thing. They have never bothered except for giving me looks of "get your fingers out my mouth mum!", or "what are you doing you strange woman?". This week, however, if I have touched their gums, they have screamed out in pain!! All 3 of them. Applying bonjella had been horrible but seems to have helped a little. Will is next in line to cut the top 2 teeth, they are breaking though and the last 2 days in particular had been horrible for him. The most chilled out baby hasn't let us put him down for more than a few minutes when he is fully under the influence of calpol or nurofen. He is usually really playful and bouncy, but he has just lay down with his head on my chest all day. His temperature jumped at one point but was back down with meds. Poor boy. Hurry up and cut through teeth! It must be so horrible for them. Sharp little things forcing their way through their skin. Simply awful!
