11. 21 week scan

I had an eventful night last night. Got into bed later than normal because of a TV show we were watching. Knowing I'm not working today helped with the decision making.

I go to bed with a hot water bottle every night to warm the bed and ease my aches and pains. It goes nowhere near my tummy! Anyway, last night, it leaked. Uuuuurgh.

When I finally got into bed and to sleep, I was woken up with a flippin nose bleed! I've not had one for a long time thankfully. I was half asleep with a tickly runny nose, so when I finally realised what was going on, it was like a Halloween massacre. My hands and face were covered! Yuk!

The scan

Our last measurement scan was 3 weeks ago. So I was keen to see how they were all progressing. It's always a bit nerve wracking as we fully expect that one isn't doing as well as the others each time. I hadn't felt baby C move yesterday but he had a little jump around this morning so wasn't too nervous. James actually felt baby B kick yesterday which was nice.

The scan was a great success! It was a sonographer we had met, but hadn't been scanned by. She flew all over the bump and measured everything in record time. She said they are all surprisingly similar and looking great! We usually then go on and see Justine, the multiples clinician, but they were running incredibly late today so we saw a new doc and our usual midwife. They said Justine is very happy with the scan results so not desperate to see us today. Baby A is 392g. Baby B is 400g. And baby C is 406g. All 14oz! It's amazing!! Also, this sonographer said the membranes are so thin, we are still being treated as Monochorionic, identical triplets with a single placenta. The rarest one. She nodded towards that being fact too.

So a great result!

I saw a friend last week who works in NICU and she said she looks after many naturally born premature babies and that I should ask if I can go down that route if I go into labour early. I did ask, and Caroline our midwife, said that there is nobody specialised enough to carry through a natural birth of triplets. It just wouldn't be safe for the babies. The chances are I will have one, then need a cesarean anyway. So back to plan A. Of course, if I wanted to, I'm sure I would be able to try, but it's just not worth the risk and stress to all involved. We want them all here nice and safe.

I also asked about cord blood donation and if they do it here. I've heard about the benefits of cord blood for seemingly endless uses so I'm keen to have ours donated. I need to contact someone who will come in to collect it and take it. They don't specifically do it, but welcome the collection. So thats good! It just might not work if I go in over night as an emergency.
