17. 28 week scan

I regularly have a moment of "I can't believe we are having triplets! Triplets???" I also often feel incredibly frustrated being unable to do the simplest of things now. James is doing the babies bedroom, and I would love to help. There's doors that need painting and things I still need to sort out. But I can no longer do these things without being in a huge amount of discomfort or pain.  But then I think about the babies. And it blows my mind! Pregnancy is mind blowing full stop. A human body putting a few cells together, which, over the months start to develop into little humans, with a beating heart, functioning kidneys, working lungs, muscles which move their little limbs and digits, working eyes and ears, and even hair, teeth and nails. It's just incredible. And I am doing 3 in 1!!! I am growing 3 more beating hearts, 3 more little brains, and all of the other things that make a small human being. Then they will grow outside my body! They will learn to move t...

I can't believe the kindness of people, even people I don't, or barely know. Friends and family have begun to flock around to help me with Jack. Neighbours (who are also good friends) offering to pick him up from nursery so he can walk home, which he enjoys more than me collecting him in the car. The same neighbours walk their dog a couple of times a day and have offered to take Jack with them. We both went on Monday which was lovely. Other friends are offering the same. And a whole bunch of friends offering to pick him up for a couple of hours or an afternoon, so I can get my feet up. It's just so lovely. I will start taking them up on these offers very soon!  Last week I picked up Jack's school application form and the staff even offered to drop it off for me so I didn't need to walk or drive down. I even had my accountant offer to come and collect my paperwork from another town, to save me the journey!  All of these things really mean so much to me!  I'm curr...

15. Easing discomfort, or at least trying to.

Image
This post is mainly aimed at pregnant mums who are experiencing pain and discomfort. I see loads of posts from multiples mums with similar issues to me and lots of ideas and suggestions to help with the aches and pains.  Morning sickness and nausea To start with, I feel like i cant skip past morning sickness. I only had a few days of nausea with Jack, but the nausea was so extreme with the triplets, I really struggled to eat and sleep. I know some people who were really physically ill unfortunately. At times, I desperately wanted to be physically sick just to ease the nausea, but it never happened. For me, it eased around 16 weeks with the triplets and it was like a breath if fresh air! If it is really bad, doctors and midwives may offer an anti sickness medicine.  One of the most common tips are to eat ginger. This didn't work for me but I tried baking ginger biscuits and cakes, and tried sweets and tea. Worth trying all options. For me, fizzy water was my best option and I d...

14. Cord blood donation

Image
Not sure if I have already mentioned it, but I have been very interested in donating my umbilical cord and/or blood. I looked into it when I was pregnant with my miscarriage last year and have been doing some research over the past few weeks. I asked our clinician and midwife a few weeks ago who said it isn't something they do as a hospital, but they often have people coming in to collect the donations. It would be up to me to find the person who would come on the day of the birth and take away whatever is needed. Simple! Or is it? I started googling but kept hitting dead ends through the NHS. There are 3 places in London and a small handful of others dotted around the country that collect donations. None near here unfortunately. I wasn't willing to give up so I kept plugging away.  I kept googling and found a number of companies offering a christmas discount. I saw that they charge hundreds of pounds to come and collect for you. When I say hundreds, it's £600-£900 for the ...
