16. 26 week scan

I can't believe the kindness of people, even people I don't, or barely know. Friends and family have begun to flock around to help me with Jack. Neighbours (who are also good friends) offering to pick him up from nursery so he can walk home, which he enjoys more than me collecting him in the car. The same neighbours walk their dog a couple of times a day and have offered to take Jack with them. We both went on Monday which was lovely. Other friends are offering the same. And a whole bunch of friends offering to pick him up for a couple of hours or an afternoon, so I can get my feet up. It's just so lovely. I will start taking them up on these offers very soon!

Last week I picked up Jack's school application form and the staff even offered to drop it off for me so I didn't need to walk or drive down. I even had my accountant offer to come and collect my paperwork from another town, to save me the journey!

All of these things really mean so much to me!

I'm currently, just about, still able to do most things, but everything is REALLY hard work now. I think I am determined to keep doing things while I can because I can feel my days being limited now.

26 week scan

Each time we go for a scan we are expecting their sizes and weights to start varying. This time, they are estimated at 2lb1, 2lb2 and 2lb1! They are doing so well!! They are wriggling around so much now that people can see it. The 4 little legs of TB and TC are right at the top of my bump, so ripples and bumps are regularly seen by friends and family now. I am, from the side, about the size I was with Jack at 39 weeks according to photos, but there is an awful lot of belly that continues around my sides like a huge inflatable tyre. A very solid, huge inflatable tyre. It's actually visible now why my ribs are so sore because you can see them almost pinched in at the top of the bump.

I've even started outgrowing my maternity clothes. The jeans I was out of a few weeks ago, but leggings are now too tight for the over bump ones. Even my t-shirts are uncomfortable because they all cling. If they are not making me sore, they flippin well make me itch! So I've resorted to wearing XXXL mens t-shirts and jumpers so I don't have the material touching as much. Haha, sexy! And not what my usual size 10 frame is used to.

Jack's understanding

We talk to Jack a lot about the triplets to try and prepare him as best we can. He is too young to understand really but us and nursery are doing as much as we can to help him to understand. He is fascinated with my huge belly now and wants to see it, touch it, cuddle it and kiss it all the time. He even puts a football up his top and tells us there are babies in it.

The other night Jack was taking to daddy about the triplets. He was pointing at his tummy saying "one baby here, and one baby here, and one baby here". James asked him what babies do and Jack said "they cry". James said they do but it's OK, because Jack can make them feel better. Jack said "babies want calpol in mummy's tummy".

He has been so helpful these last few days.  I often ask him to help me and pick up something that's on the floor. He runs over, hands it to me and says "dey go mummy" (there you go mummy). He has also become very good at helping me to tidy up his toys.

He has however, become much more of a daddy's boy, which means James has even more on his plate at the moment. Jack is his little shadow, which is insanely cute, but me trying to distract him while James is doing stuff isn't working like it did. And I can't pick him up to carry him away any more.

How I'm feeling

Exhausted. In a word. I'm not tired like I was in the first trimester, but I'm constantly weary. I'm not needing to nap during the day all the time, but I have had one this week. People keep telling me I look really well, but I look in the mirror and see black eyes, dry skin and wrinkles everywhere, so they are either being polite, or I need new mirrors. I do need new lips. They have been in shreds since the pregnancy started and I'm sure I look like I've been punched in the mouth a lot of the time. Another little joy of pregnancy.

So I'm still trying to do little bits. James has started working on the babies bedroom, so I have slowly been boxing stuff up and moving things around. Only small things I can manage, don't worry! We are moving downstairs, so it's basically going to be a full bedroom swap. I can't do much, but I'm trying to do what I can. Emptying drawers and shelves bit by bit.

I've been trying to get Jack out of the house as much as possible while he is working here too. We have been going to James's mums for nap time so that James can crack on and be as noisy as he needs. It's working well but it's a bit of a pain having to pack a bag with his monitor,  Pj's, books and duvet. Plus breakfast and lunch for before he goes to sleep and after he gets up. James and Lynda have been getting me, Jack and the bags to and from the car in the icy weather which adds yet another job onto James's list.

He is so good when we go to friends houses. He plays well and just entertains himself most of the time. But if there is nobody who can help me to put him in his car seat, I need to climb into the car and strap him in, which is surprisingly challenging! He is getting pretty good at climbing into the chair himself, but I think it must be the crawling position which takes it out of me. Then I need to crawl back out and get myself into my seat. Lots of puffing and panting! Haha.

BBC Triplets piece

There was a short piece on BBC breakfast last week about one of the sports presenters who has recently had triplets, naturally conceived. It was lovely to see three little babies all snuggled together.

They gave some facts which I will put down on here. They seem a little different to what we have been told, but it does show how rare they are.

There are around 100 sets of triplets are born in the UK each year. Only 25 of those are naturally conceived, meaning they are just 1% of all pregnancies pregnancies!

And for my final note. White cream eggs are INCREDIBLE! If you see any, let me know where they are so I can go and stock up! Haha!
