18. Back pain
Another post about my aches and pains.
I have always struggled with my back when I am not doing regular exercise. It started at uni and I was waking up with the tightness in my back being so extreme I was finding it hard to breathe properly. I couldn't fill my lungs without the pain being extreme until I was up and about and moving around again.
I was basically told that my muscles go to sleep and seize up in my sleep. Excercise to strengthen the muscles will sort it.
So I started climbing.
It hasn't been a constant problem but I have always been active in one way or another and I know how to fix it when it does flare up a bit.
However this time, I don't know how to fix it. I can't walk far, I can't do pull ups any more, I can't do pressups or planks. These have all been easy fixes for me. I also didn't know how to stretch. I've done lots of stretches for lower back and shoulders, but the pain is in my middle back all the way up the sides and across the middle. When I did stretch, it was incredibly painful, and my body is so solid, I'm not able to twist or bend to get a proper stretch.
Last Wednesday morning we managed to find somebody to give me a pregnancy massage at very late notice. She said I was solid and wasn't surprised I was in pain. Since then I have had one back pain free night. I have been doing bits of stretches she suggested, tried a swim, and tried a back massager. Unfortunately, my ribs are currently flared up again, so I think I am tensing up more because of that pain which is probably aggravating my back even more.
The swim was nice to feel weightless, my mum had Jack and I did a little swimming then jumped in with him. It was so lovely because I could hold him!!! I didn't want to let him go in the weightless water! It feels like ages since I've picked him up and properly cuddled him like that.
However, the weight of me getting out of the water wasn't pleasant at all and the pain was even worse that night. Unrelated I'm sure.
OK, moan over!
